"Brainwash" was a mural created & destroyed in a room in the centre of Shenzhen (China) during 16 months between february2011 & may2012. see the process of it’s transformation into a video-performance:
Brainwash is a direct call for hygiene of the central nervous system. Polluted by trashy media imagery, the brain seems dirty. The image of the brain, that has been painted as a mural on a wall, now is being removed with bleach. The video is leaking from the screen like the bleached paint is leaking from the wall. This washout inspires some paradoxical associations:
brain / pain
paint / drain
vortex / cortex
mobile / limbo
cyst / system
wash / show
Whirling words appear on the brain’s screen. It needs to be washed. But the process of brainwash is painful, so the ‘brain pain’ goes with the ‘paint drain’. ‘Cortex’ sinks into a ‘vortex’ of neural confusion. Limbic system falls into animated ‘limbo’, down the ‘mobile’ spine spiral. Throughout the ‘system’ of a ‘cyst’. Watching the ‘wash show’.
Brainwash is video hypnosis in order to purify the perception. Wrap the brain in aluminium foil that reflects the cosmic light of a LED bulb, attached by a stream of glitter litter. By activating the right side of the brain, the reality is being stretched and deformed into a digital pattern, that is sucked by a projection, coming out of an AC.
"Brainwash" got selected for Creative Macau competition 2013 and won the Award for Best Moving Image.
